Chittagong Medical College at a glance:

1901- Chittagong General Hospital started functioning on the hilltop of downtown Anderkilla, opening the era of institutionalized practice of Modern medicine.

 1927- Chittagong Medical School was established in Chittagong Chittagong General Hospital Compound to conduct a four-year Licentiate course (LMF), to produce mid-level physicians.

 1956- The then government decided to establish a full-pledged medical college.

 1957- Chittagong medical College came into being; Hussain Shahid Suhrawardy the then Prime Minister of Pakistan along with the then Health Minister Dhirendra Nath Dutta, inaugurated the medical College in the present campus. Dr. Altaf Uddin Ahmed was the first Principal of the institution. Chittagong Medical College started with only three Academic Departments viz, Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry and with only 26 teachers and 76 students.

 1969- Chittagong Medical College Hospital was shifted to the present seven-storied new building. 1990- Dental Unit was established and BDS course started.

 1992- Diploma Courses in 3 subjects viz, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Pediatrics and Anesthesiology introduced.

 2002- i) Introduced 29 post-graduate courses: MD. MS, M Phil, MPH and Diploma ii) MBBS-2002 curriculum implemented

 2007- i) MD course in Forensic Medicine introduced. ii) BDS-2007 curriculum implemented

 2008- MS in Otorhinolaryngology.

Chittagong Medical Hospital at a glance:

Since the inception of Chittagong Medical College until-1960 Chittagong General Hospital served as the Academic Hospital of Chittagong Medical College.

 1960 - Chittagong Medical College Hospital was established in the present campus only with the departments of Medicine, Surgery and Obstetrics & Gynecology.

 1969 – Construction of the present purpose-built hospital had been completed. At present it accommodates 15 inpatient departments and 18 outpatient departments. The present bed-strength of the hospital is 1010 which was initially 500. New scopes for treatment facilities are being added from time to time in various disciplines like CCU, Nephrology, Neonatal Intensive Care, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Plastic Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Nuclear Medicine & RPI facilities to server the people.

 2007- Facilities added for MRI, C.T. Scan with Contrast, FNAC, Paptest, ICU, Cardiac Cath Lab, Casualty, ESWL (Stone Crushing), all types of Endoscopic, Laparoscopic Operations, including Endoscopic Neurosurgery, one stop crisis management centre including DNA testing.
